My wife and I often drive by a bakery near our house. Every time we pass it’s like a massage for my nostrils. Perplexingly, however, my wife has noted that bread never tastes as good as it smells. Here are five other culprits:
- Coffee
- Twizzlers
- Popcorn
- Watermelon
- Mouthwash
Any others?

Coffee tastes as good as it smells with plenty of half-n-half.
Mouthwash tastes as good as it smells in someone else’s mouth.
But to answer your question: tobacco, generally.

I guess I’m the mouth referred to in comment #1. Glad to know. :-)
You’re so right about bread, though! Franklin Bakery is KILLER with its smells, but is just bread when you actually eat it.

Vitamins. I just got those new One a Day Vitamins for Teens for my kids, and they smell just like cookie dough/cake batter. I think my daughter opened the bottle every couple of hours the first day just to smell them…

Definately flavoured teas fall into this category for me! I LOVE the smell of things like apple and cinnamon tea but to me it all tastes like hot dishwater (not that I have ever tasted hot dishwater… but maybe it tastes nicer than it smells??)

Fresh, warm, homemade bread (if done correctly) with cold butter on it tastes as good (sometimes better) as it smells.
As to your question: any hard candy – anything my mother-in-law makes.
